All Hushed and Still within the House

All hushed and still within the house;

Without - all wind and driving rain;

But something whispers to my mind,

Through rain and through the wailing wind,

          Never again.

Never again?  Why not again?

Memory has power as real as thine.

A Clear Midnight

This is thy hour O Soul, thy free flight into the wordless,

Away from books, away from art, the day erased, the lesson done,

The fully forth emerging, silent, gazing, pondering the themes

          thou lovest best.

Night, sleep, and the stars.
